In January 2002, W.C.C.W. sent letters to elementary schools
in White County with details of two writing contests for students in grades 1 through 4.
Essay contest subject was "The Animal in My Life" and the Poetry

were $15.00 for first place, $10.00 for second place, and $5.00 for third. In addition, the first place entries were
sponsored by W.C.C.W. in contests being held for students by ByLine, a national writers'

On April 16, a reception was held at the Lightle Center in Searcy
for the winners. Teachers and family members were invited to share this moment with the students. Over 100 people
attended, and congratulated our winners as they received their awards.
Our thanks to the teachers, students, and their families for their participation in this event.
A special thank you is extended
to the management of the Lightle Center, who graciously allowed us to use their facility when we realized that our normal
meeting place would not accommodate this gathering.
