On September 1, 2007, White County Creative Writers will host their 12th Annual Writers' Conference.  Join us in the American Heritage Center at Harding University in Searcy, Arkansas for a day of inspiration and achievement.

Rob Lamm

Rob Lamm began teaching writing and English education courses at Arkansas State University after receiving his doctorate from the University of Oklahoma.  He was a consultant for the National Writing Project for 20 years and served 10 of those years as an NWP site director.  A past president of ACTELA, Arkansas’ organization for English teachers, he is now the editor for ACTELA’s literary collection, The Arkansas Anthology.  Dr. Lamm’s writing textbook, Dynamic Argument, was published by Houghton Mifflin this year and is being used in writing programs around the country.  His next book to be published by HM, Dynamic Writing, will include many of the creative techniques featured in his presentation to White County Creative Writers.

Ellen Withers

Ellen Withers finds that her ‘day job’ as an insurance investigator furnishes her with inspiration and information that feeds her writing career. She is a contributing writer and serves on the editorial committee of SIU Awareness, a national insurance fraud awareness magazine. A member of Sweet Adelines International, she occasionally combines both interests by entertaining at writers’ functions and writing for the S.A. publication, The Pitch Pipe.  Her essays, articles, and short stories have taken honors at conferences in Arkansas and Oklahoma, and her work is supported by such publications as the Arkansas Democrat Gazette, Ozark Mountaineer, SouthLit.com, and others.  Ellen has spoken on Starting and Sustaining a Freelance Career, and How to Become a Professional Writer, as well as serving on a discussion panel about  contest judging.  She was a featured speaker at a writers’ workshop for the Arkansas Parks and Tourism Department in 2006.  A member of four literary organizations, she serves on the board of the Arkansas Writers’ Conference.

Jennifer DiCamillo

Jennifer DiCamillo’s award winning works have appeared in Museletter, The Poisoned Pen, Ozarks Magazine, Storyteller Magazine, Cup of Comfort for Women in Love, and many other publications around the world.  Her debut novel, The Price of Peace, won a CAPA nomination for Best Historical Fiction 2004.  Other award-winning works are: Courting Disaster, a romance novel; Passing Thoughts and Passing Images, poetry collections; upcoming mystery anthologies Deadknots and Despicado; the Big Boys children’s series.  Her short science fiction can be found currently in Unbelievable Stories Magazine.  Jennifer recently signed 23 contracts with Mojocastle Press under her pseudonym,  Carlys Weldon.

Deanna Dismukes

 

Deanna Dismukes is Education Coordinator for the Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum and Educational Center in Piggott, Arkansas.  She has been Director of the Hemingway Creative Writers’ Retreat for the last five years.  Prior to taking this position, she was Director of Arkansas Enrichment for Gifted Instruction in Education ( A.E.G.I.S.), funded by the Arkansas Department of Education.  Deanna holds a Master of Science in Education.  Each summer she teaches ten days of professional development workshops for teachers, with the specific approval of the Arkansas Dept. of Education.

 

Deanna states that while personal creative writing is a weakness for her, her strength is in creating opportunities for others to write.
